Trade Mourns Sudden Death Of Weis Markets’ Bruno Garisto

Bruno Garisto, 45, Weis Markets’ vice president of center store merchandising and sales, passed away unexpectedly on August 10.

“Words cannot begin to describe our sadness and shock at Bruno’s passing,” said Kurt Schertle, Weis Markets’ executive vice president.  “Bruno was a good friend and a gifted professional who will be missed by many.  He was devoted to his wife Carolyn and his children, Nick and Katie.  They have our deepest sympathies.”

During his career in the food industry, Garisto worked in supply chain management, merchandising, marketing, procurement and sales in the United States and abroad.  He joined Weis Markets in 2004 as director of center store sales and subsequently worked as director of private brands before being promoted to vice president of center store merchandising and sales.  Earlier in his career, he worked for Ahold Indonesia, Ahold USA, Giant/Carlisle, Daymon Worldwide and Hillandale Farms.

A native of Harrisburg and a current resident of Lewisburg, PA, Garisto earned a bachelor’s degree in food marketing from Saint Joseph’s University.  In recent years, he served on the university’s Academy of Food Marketing board of governors. He subsequently attended Bucknell University where he earned a master’s degree in business administration. 

Garisto is also survived by his parents, Vito and Valerie Garisto, and two sisters, Maria Swift of Audobon, PA and Anna Waigan of Atlanta.

A viewing will be held the August 14 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Shaw Funeral Home, 801 Market Street, Lewisburg, PA. A funeral mass will be held August 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Bucknell University’s Rooke Chapel in Lewisburg.
